Mapping Activity & Transmission Relationships in Sex

Challenge: Recruiting study participants to pinpoint factors that impact Mpox transmission and contribute to vaccine hesitancy.

Mpox disproportionately impacts sexual minorities and communities of color, populations that are historically underrepresented in research. We worked with the CDC and community members to pilot a survey to address medical mistrust and vaccine attitudes. Finding participants in specific populations initially proved challenging. To improve response rates, we segmented our messaging and outreach by recruitment group. This targeting included modifying language and images in flyers and online marketing campaigns, and reassessing the locations where we advertised the study, both online and in-person.
